Recently, I discovered Lowe’s carries clearance and/or damaged merchandise at the end of its aisles in the middle of the store. My best find were a pair of mid-century-style wood and brushed steel table lamps. One was marked $5 and the other was marked $15. They didn’t come with shades, but that was an easy find at Ikea. I get compliments all the time on these expensive-looking lamps and consider them two of my best bargain finds ever.
Lowe’s doesn’t advertise these super discounted items, so you have to go and sift through the carts yourself. But it’s totally worth it.

Also at Lowe's – if you go look at their discounted appliances (they are usually in an aisle in that department all kind of together) – you can negotiate with them! I buy appliances often for clients when I project manage a renovation for staging purposes. I have offered $300 for a $900 dishwasher that had been returned & repaired. They took it! I've done this several times. So don't be afraid to ask for further discounts on appliances – and on plants.

Wow! Great inside info on Lowe's. I'll check them out when I need to upgrade my appliances. I've also been impressed with their customer service — far superior to the service (or lack thereof) you get at Home Depot.
