New children’s resale shop ? with play area and storytime! ? in North Portland

February 8, 2010 by respaced

Parents in North/Northeast Portland now have a new place to sell their children’s gently used clothing and baby gear: Mississippi Treehouse. The store, located on North Portland’s indie-shopping strip Mississippi Street, opened just this last year and is to date, the only children’s boutique that also features resale in the neighborhood. They are also the only North Portland children’s store I know of that features a story hour (Fridays from 12-2 p.m.) and a play area.

Mississippi Treehouse is not the place to unload your old maternity clothes. Larger baby gear like strollers are sold on consignment. They give either 40 percent in trade credit that must be used in one year or 30 percent in cash.

If you’ve just done a major sort through your children’s clothes, keep in mind that they only look through one shopping bag of clothing per customer per day. Don’t bother bringing in those black garbage bags full of clothes!

If you’re looking for another place to sell unused or outgrown infant/children’s items, you can try Queen’s Mab in the Kenton neighborhood in North Portland. For new infant/children’s items, try Black Wagon, which is also on Mississippi Street, or Grasshopper, which is on NE Alberta Street.

I went there last week and got Nicholas some new shoes. The staff were knowledgable and just as important, were laid back with Nicholas grabbing items off the shelves to do his tactile tests (what does it feel like, and is it edible?). Thanks for the tip.
