Store your pots and pans in a dollhouse. Seriously.

November 26, 2012 by respaced

I’ve seen a lot of storage products. A lot. But this is the first time I have seen an organizing product designed to look like a dollhouse or shed. The Shed Shelf organizer from Studio Gorm can hold kitchen, office or clothing items on its many racks, nooks and crannies. An inside section of the shed also opens up to reveal more space for storage. I couldn’t find any measurements, but judging from the size of those wine glasses, it’s pretty big. (I couldn’t find any prices either, in case you are wondering.)

So why store your pots and pans this way?

“It reminds us not to take things so seriously and to look at things from a different perspective every now and then,” writes the Eugene, Oregon-based company on their website.

From an organizer’s perspective, I don’t know that it’s more efficient than storing your kitchen items in cupboards. The Shed Shelf takes up a lot of floor space, whereas cupboards utilize vertical wall space. When it comes to making your home feel more spacious, using storage devices that take advantage of vertical wall space will always win out (that’s why you always see so many wall units in Ikea catalogs). But from a design perspective, the Shed Shelf definitely has something more to offer than boring old cuboards.

What do you think of this storage product? Useful or useless? What else could you store in it?
