1. Expired Sunscreen & Bug Spray
Most sunscreen expires after about a year or two, so go ahead and toss the old bottles so you’re not relying on products that don’t work.
2. Broken or Leaky Water Toys
There’s nothing more depressing than getting your whole family to the river only to discover that one (or more!) of your floaties has a hole in it. Free up space for the gear that actually works.
3. Outgrown Sandals, Swimwear, and Rash Guards
If you have kids, this is the kind of gear that they will probably outgrow every year.
4. School Papers You Don’t Need
Now that the year is officially over, keep only the best artwork and school essays/projects. Recycle or trash the rest.
5. Dried‑Up Markers, Crayons, and Craft Supplies
This is a good task to assign to your child — testing all the markers, glues and pens.
6. Old Sports Gear from Spring Season
Cleats, uniforms, and equipment that won’t be used again can be donated.
7. Half‑Used Snacks No One Likes
Clear out stale chips and the granola bars that taste like cardboard, so there’s room for fresh summer snacks.
8. Beach/Pool Bags Filled with Random Junk
Toss the wrappers, broken toys, and sandy odds‑and‑ends so your grab‑and‑go bags stay functional.
9. Winter Items Still Hanging Around
A scarf with holes, that single glove, the broken umbrella or single-use poncho–it’s time to be free of these things!
10. The Guilt Pile
The unread book, the WIP you know deep down you will never finish, the thing you “should” fix. Release it. Summer deserves a clean slate.
