If you want to know how to organize a child’s play space or your own art supplies, look no further than a preschool for inspiration and know-how. Due to the large numbers of children using the space, most preschools have figured out how to organize big numbers of toys and art supplies in an accessible way for young people. Here are some pictures of an organized preschool, which may give you some ideas for organization in your own home:
Notice how the teacher has organized supplies by color and type, rather than just type. This simple cubby system makes it easy to take things down and put them back. No labels are needed because it’s obvious what goes where. And notice how paper is stored upright in a vertical file folder. Much less messy than being stored flat.
Here, pencils and pens are stored upright in jars rather than in their original boxes, making it easier for small children to take what they want and put them back when they are done. Love that marker holder on the top shelf.
Beads are stored out in the open in tiny cups on trays, sorted by color. This makes it easy for little fingers to take what they want without getting their fingers stuck in narrow jars. Notice how super tiny beads have lids on their jars, but the big beads do not. The trays are stored up high on the shelves, so children can see them, but cannot retrieve them without teacher’s assistance.
I hope this has given you some good ideas for your own home. I’ll post the rest of these photos and tips on Monday.
