Here at reSPACEd, I like to say that working with a professional organizer is like working with a combination of life coach, interior designer and Mary Poppins. It’s a new experience for most people, and our aim is to make getting organized as easy as possible for you while helping you achieve results. How do you know if you are ready to start the organizing process with us? When you:
Feel comfortable (or mostly comfortable) having a stranger in your house, helping you go through your things for hours at a time. We understand how vulnerable you can feel, having a strange person go through all of your personal things and asking questions about them. We consider ourselves a friendly, non-judgmental bunch, and we approach this part of the project with as much sensitivity and respect as possible.
Have the head-space as well as physical time to work on a multi-hour project. Organizing can be really tiring physically, cognitively and emotionally. Making decision after decision will wear a person out, so we cap our organizing sessions at 4 hours max. We would rather see you for several sessions in a row than try to organize an entire room in a 10-hour marathon.
Ready to look at some things that may bring up memories of the past. Oftentimes, people hang onto things that hold both positive and negative memories. At every session, we organizers come across those types of items, which can create an emotional experience for the client. We are there to support you every step of the way.
Open to new ideas. Are you ready to consider rearranging your furniture? Finding new homes for things? Moving things around? Opening up cabinets and boxes? Because we will definitely be doing all of that at your organizing session.
Ready to let go of some things. All organizing projects start by doing a big dig-out of the space and letting go of items that are unused and/or unloved. We get the best results (meaning you get the most out of your time, energy and money!) when you are ready to let go of things.
Able to accept feedback. What is at the root of the disorganization? What habits and practices allow the clutter to return? We take an honest look at all of these issues with our clients not to point fingers and assign blame, but because we want to be able to solve these problems and get to the heart of the matter. Are you ready to hear a professional’s assessment of your situation?
Open to making changes in your daily routine. Want to make sure the organizing sticks after we finish working with you? This is where adopting new clean-up habits and routines come in. No room stays organized on its own. It requires your consistent attention and effort. Fortunately, we know lots of ways to make that clean-up time as fun and painless as possible!
Once you feel ready to work with one of our kind and compassionate professional organizers, fill out the form on our contact page and tell us all about your organizing project. We would love to lend a hand!
