Go Trashy app. This app helps you find a trash hauler at a set price point. Simply snap a photo of the trash you want hauled away, receive a price quote from a hauler, and sit back as they come to your house and take your trash away for you. You don’t even have to be present when the hauler shows up. It’s a great way to get things to the trash that can’t be recycled and are too big to drive to the dump.
Pickup Please website. If you are in Oregon, you can schedule this non-profit (the charity arm of the Vietnam Veterans of America) to come to your house and pick up your unwanted, “donate-able” goods for free. Note that all of your goods need to be left outside so Pickup Please can access them. They cannot accept goods from apartments.
The timer on your phone. I find that this is the most useful, overlooked organizing tool. Organizing can be really hard work and it can be difficult to stay motivated. So setting the timer for 15 minutes intervals and taking a brief, 5-minute “brain break” after each 15 minutes can help you get through the process. Continue to set the timer for 15 minutes until you have cleared the space you are working in.
If you have a hard time just getting started on your organizing project, set your phone for 10 minutes and give yourself permission to quit after 10 minutes if you really feel like you can’t continue. Most people find that after 10 minutes they are invested and interested enough in the project to keep going.
Amikasa app. Does part of your room reorganization include moving your furniture around? Spare yourself the back pain and check to see if your couch will fit along that wall BEFORE you move it with this room design app. It lets you use furniture from real brands and offers a 3D option so you can “walk through” your finished room. Works with iOS and Android.
Closet Design and Planner tools. Thanks to IKEA’s planner tool and The Container Store’s planner tool, I don’t have to go into the actual store to design a closet for a client. I can design the closet and order it from home. It’s nice to have all of the options at my fingertips. And with The Container Store, if you run into problems designing with their tool, help is just a phone call away (and they are so nice on the phone, too!)
