Organizing Idea of the week: bookshelves

July 31, 2013 by respaced

Organizing large bookshelves can be so tricky. The temptation is to stuff the shelves with all of our books and tchotkes, because we so badly need the storage. But this often results in a cluttered, messy look, especially if your bookshelves are this large. This bookshelf above has the perfect ratio of books to knick-knacks. The books are lined up in order of size and color, making them feel more orderly. Most of the knick-knacks are large, which unifies the look and keeps the shelves from feeling cluttered. The baskets in the middle provide visual interest as well as useful storage for smaller things. It’s a great example of bookshelf organization.
